The first SETE Digital Workshop for 2025 entitled “Smart tourism: How artificial intelligence is changing the landscape” took place on Tuesday, April 29.
The discussion was attended by more than 150 tourism professionals, and was coordinated by SETE General Manager, Maria Gatsou, who pointed out that the need for digital transformation in Greek tourism has accelerated by 95% after the pandemic, as reflected in the relevant INSETE roadmap. She also emphasized maintaining the balance between the core of Greek hospitality, which is people, and technological development.
The webinar focused on 2 thematic sections:
Section 1: Welcome to Smart Tourism | When AI meets hospitality
During the 1st session, Marketing Greece General Manager, Nikos Diamantopoulos, analyzed how the use of artificial intelligence tools affects each stage of the travel funnel. From the evolution of search to the use of AI Agents and smart travel assistants to intelligent data analysis.

In the same session, Stefanos Karagos, Founder of XPlain, presented 5+1 use cases that show how Artificial Intelligence is disrupting the Tourism Industry — and how we can make a difference.

Section 2: AI Technologies in Practice
The 2nd section focused on the practical side of AI in the tourism sector where George Spiliotopoulos, Public Segment ICT Sales of OTE Group, presented the mAIGreece application, a new multilingual digital assistant for travelers, which provides personalized information on attractions, beaches, cultural sites and emergency services. While explaining how, thanks to geolocation and support in 31 languages, it makes every trip to Greece easier, safer and more enjoyable for all visitors.

Finally, Vasilis Polyzos, Co-Founder & Managing Director of VSCOPE presented ways in which Generative AI is able to transform content creation in tourism, through practical examples. He also referred to modern artificial intelligence tools that provide new possibilities in the production and adaptation of video, audio and image, opening the way for more creative and targeted applications.
