“A new page in the digital promotion and communication of our country is opened by the new VisitGreece.gr. A new approach to the way in which Greece internationally promotes its tourism identity and communicates with its visitors through the possibilities of modern technology,” emphasized the Minister of Tourism, Ms. Olga Kefalogianni, at the press conference where she presented the new VisitGreece.gr, the official online portal for Greek tourism.
The redesign of VisitGreece is part of the project “Digital Transformation of the Hellenic Tourism Organization“, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund. The new platform VisitGreece.gr will be operational from July 1, 2026.
In her speech, the Minister emphasized that the natural and cultural environment of Greece is now acquiring a new digital dimension, further highlighting the authenticity, quality and wealth of experiences that the country offers.
Ms. Kefalogianni pointed out that Greek tourism is in a particularly dynamic period, with 2025 being the third consecutive record year, with revenues having increased by 10% compared to 2024, at a rate higher than the increase in arrivals. It is an element that reflects the continuous upgrading of the quality of the travel experience in Greece.
At the same time, she noted that tourism activity is steadily expanding beyond the summer months. The first four months of 2026 recorded a new increase in both arrivals and revenues, which exceeded the corresponding period of the previous year by 37%. “These figures allow us to be optimistic but not complacent,” the Minister noted characteristically as the international environment is constantly changing. She added that new destinations are developing, geopolitical and economic uncertainty is affecting international travel, climate change is creating new challenges and technology is transforming the way travelers choose, organize and experience their trips.
The Minister emphasized that the goal of the Ministry of Tourism’s strategy is to transform performance into lasting value for the country, local communities, businesses and employees, while strengthening the resilience and competitiveness of our destinations.
In this context, he highlighted the Ministry’s initiatives to enrich the tourism product and develop special forms of tourism. The projects implemented by the Ministry of Tourism with resources from the Recovery and Resilience Fund, which concern investments in tourism infrastructure, accessibility and the upgrading of human resources skills, contribute to this effort.
Referring to the Digital Transformation project of the Hellenic Tourism Organization, the Minister pointed out that it is not simply about the creation of a new website, but an integrated digital ecosystem that connects information, culture, technology and the visitor experience.
The new “VisitGreece.gr”
As the Minister explained, the project is developed around three main axes:
• the Digital Tourist Map, where through extensive recording, organization and documentation of the country’s tourism stock, it will serve as a tool for the planning, promotion and sustainable development of each destination
• the Digital Repository and the Digital Interactive Museum of Tourism. For the first time, a particularly large volume of the historical archive of the Greek National Tourism Organization was organized and digitized. A valuable piece of the history of Greek tourism is being preserved and is now accessible to citizens, researchers and future generations.
• the complete redesign of VisitGreece , and the creation of a unified digital experience through the new website and the VisitGreece app.
From July 1, Greece’s official tourism portal and the new application will accompany the visitor at every stage of their journey, from searching for inspiration and planning their itinerary to touring Greece and maintaining their relationship with the country after their return.
The Minister also emphasized that the new VisitGreece leverages the capabilities of Artificial Intelligence, enabling users to chat with digital assistants, receive personalized suggestions, organize their trip and be informed directly through an experience of natural and human communication.
At the same time, he referred to the collaboration of the Greek government with ElevenLabs, one of the leading companies worldwide in the field of voice Artificial Intelligence. Through the new VisitGreece, as he pointed out, this technology comes into direct contact with the general public, offering multilingual communication and a new personalized information experience. At the same time, it is a valuable tool for Regions, Municipalities, local communities and businesses in the sector.
The technical part of the project was presented by the CEO of the contractor company Nova ICT, Mr. Alexandros Bregiannis. In his presentation, he analyzed the new architecture of VisitGreece, the technologies utilized for the development of the new platform and application, as well as the innovative capabilities of this digital ecosystem.
