The University of the Mountains, a member of the United Nations – Mountain Partnership – Food and Agriculture Organisation, will visit the village of Melampes in the Municipality of Agios Vasilios with its scientific teams of volunteers on Friday, 28 November 2025.
The following actions have been planned:
- Sowing flaxseed at Spilio Primary School, with pupils from Plakias Primary School taking part.
- Peer-to-peer student teaching – a pedagogical intervention of Spilio Primary School and Plakias Primary School.
- Medical Examinations, for vulnerable groups in the area, by professors of medicine at the University of Crete, together with teams of nurses and students.
- Cafe of the Mountains, an open discussion with local residents, to be held in the afternoon of the same day. Topics relating to the family, the environment, the home, the craft economy and self-sufficiency will be discussed.
