The international news website used the results of the public vote in the Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards based on the 20 best countries in the world, and then carried out extensive research in order to compile a list of selected destinations for each country which are renowned for their rich local culture, civilisation and unspoilt natural beauty.
Among Out of a total of 20 countries and 43 proposed tourist destinations across Europe, America, Asia, Oceania and Africa, Greece – with Naxos and Syros – ranks second on the list for 2026. According to the international information website, “the list is more than just a ranking; it offers a glimpse into the future of travel. It is proof that the world’s most beloved destinations are those that honour authenticity and sustainability and have a soul. Sunny islands, whitewashed villages and food that speaks to the heart of the visitor – this is Greece, a country that combines beauty with warm hospitality. The representatives of the two Greek destinations on the list express their appreciation for modern travel trends.
The Deputy Mayor for Tourism of the Municipality of Syros – Ermoupolis, Ioannis A. Voutsinos, states that “Syros has the “raw materials” to offer unique travel experiences even outside the peak season. Year after year, our vision of holidays that go beyond the ordinary is gaining ground. It is no coincidence that last year’s cultural programme organised by the Municipality – featuring over 50 activities such as concerts, theatre performances, dance events and children’s activities – ran from May to November, attracting keen interest from travellers both in Greece and abroad. The wide range of options, along with the island’s rich history, culture and traditions throughout the year, reveal a different side to Syros.”
