Donoussa It is one of the top authentic summer destinations in Europe, according to the popular German travel website reisereporter.de, which ranks it second on its list of the most unique “secret” destinations for this summer.
The German websites’ tribute showcases five European destinations that have retained their authenticity and offer high-quality holiday experiences, free from overtourism. These are Valdoviño in Spain, Donoussa in the Small Cyclades, Puy-l’Évêque in France, Brisighella in Italy and the historic city of Tomar in Portugal.
According to the publication, Donoussa is one of the “last remaining summer paradises of the Mediterranean”, having retained its Cycladic character, tranquillity and unpretentious beauty. The island is renowned for its turquoise waters, unspoilt beaches, picturesque paths and the slow, unhurried pace of life it offers visitors. The island’s compact size, the lack of mass tourism infrastructure and direct contact with nature combine to create a unique blend of relaxation and authenticity.
Special mention is made of the impressive beaches of Donoussa, such as Kedros with its crystal-clear waters and golden sand, and Livadi with its exotic landscape and peaceful atmosphere, as well as the island’s small settlements, which have preserved their traditional Cycladic identity unchanged. The publication also highlights the importance of hiking trails, which allow visitors to explore the natural landscape, chapels, steep coastlines and unique views of the Aegean, offering experiential and alternative tourism experiences.
Donoussa, the northernmost island of the Small Cyclades, is a destination that combines simplicity with authenticity, natural beauty with tranquillity, and traditional hospitality with sustainable tourism development. This international recognition forms part of the initiative by the Municipality of Naxos and the Small Cyclades, having been preceded by an informative meeting with a media representative at the major tourism exhibition in Berlin, ITB. The municipality’s wider efforts include targeted engagement at international exhibitions, destination presentations abroad, press trips and the development of travel-related social media through a range of initiatives.

The Small Cyclades and Naxos offer the ideal combination: unique natural beauty, authentic hospitality, gastronomy, culture, outdoor activities, hiking, maritime experiences and a high quality of life. We continue to highlight the multi-dimensional character of our islands, enhancing their openness to the world and international recognition,” said Vangelis Katsaras, Deputy Mayor for Tourism of the Municipality of Naxos and the Small Cyclades.
