The Municipality of Kantanos – Selinos at an exhibition in Paris on hiking and trails

The Municipality of Kantanos – Selinos of the prefecture (Regional Unit) of Chania, participated in the Paris Randos Nature 2026, the international exhibition that took place from January 30 to February 1 at the Parc Floral de Paris and is a leading event dedicated to hiking, trails and sustainable outdoor tourism.

Hiking in France is confirmed as the primary leisure and sports activity for the public.

According to a recent study, 62% of French people have engaged in hiking or leisure walking activity at least once in the last year, i.e. approximately 30 million people, with a significant increase in all age groups and especially in the 18-34 age group.

At the same time, the spread of digital applications for planning routes is boosting activity, with 47% of hikers now using applications on their smartphones.

Paris Randos Nature brought together organisations, specialist organisers, destinations, travel agents and hiking clubs, showcasing both traditional routes and modern trends in outdoor tourism.

The participation of the Municipality of Kantanos – Selinos was part of the wider context of the Region of Crete, which presented the Chania Trails, while the pavilion was represented in the Paths of Greece area.

The Municipality of Kantanos – Selinos was the only municipality with physical representation in this context, showcasing the region’s trails, the special characteristics of the natural and cultural landscape, as well as the overall product of outdoor experiences that connects nature, culture and local identity.

The development of organized hiking experiences contributes substantially to the extension of the tourist season in Greece, beyond the traditional summer peak.

The timely and consistent participation of the Municipality of Kantanos – Selinos in the international exhibitions Paris Randos Nature in Paris and Salon du Randonneur in Lyon is part of a consistent strategy to promote the trails and outdoor experience of the region, with the assessment that the development of organized hiking experiences contributes substantially to the extension of the tourist season, beyond the traditional summer peak.

The Municipality of Kantanos – Selinos was represented by Deputy Mayor Stelios Kalogridis, who on the sidelines of the exhibition held meetings with tour operators who already implement hiking excursions on the European E4 trail, in the context of which a keen interest was expressed in expanding their activities on the new trails of the Municipality of Kantanos – Selinos.

At the same time, in collaboration with Dimitris Michelogiannis, an exclusive tribute to the trails of the region was secured in the international magazine Trek Magazine.

The Municipality of Kantanos – Selinos warmly thanks Mr. Michelogiannis for his continuous and substantial support.
