Asterousia is set to have its own network of hiking trails, and the epathros+ Network is taking part in the discussions on the region’s future!
The Municipality of Gortyna is organising a conference on the topic of “Hiking Trails and Sustainable Tourism Development in Asterousia“, on Sunday, 21 June 2026, at 11.00, at the Agioi Deka Town Hall, presenting the Asterousia Trails project.
The project involves the creation and promotion of a network of 11 hiking trails in Asterousia, featuring signage, mapping initiatives and promotional and information campaigns for residents and visitors, with the ultimate aim of protecting nature, promoting nature-based tourism and ensuring the sustainable development of the region.
Dr Chryssa Pagalou, General Manager of ETAM S.A. and Coordinator of the epaithros+ Cluster, will also take part in the conference, where he will outline the role of epaithros+ and the Rural Greece platform in promoting the Asterousia trails as a destination.

The initiative is being implemented as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan Greece 2.0, with funding from the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
The project entitled “Rural Tourism Cluster epaithros+” is being implemented under the “Research-Innovate” Action of the “Competitiveness” Operational Programme of the NSRF 2021–2027 and is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and national resources.
