The 1st General Assembly of the Mediterranean Trails Network in Chania

Representatives of the Mediterranean Trails Network met in Chania in recent days for the first General Assembly of the organization, which was created with the aim of promoting sustainable tourism development and developing synergies in the Mediterranean with a focus on trails.

The meeting was held in Chania in collaboration with the Region of Crete in the context of the operation of the Chania Trails Network, while in the near future the creation of a partnership between the trails of the entire island and participation in the trans-Mediterranean network as a single Trails of Crete are already planned.

Representatives of networks and organizations from France, Greece, Turkey, Lebanon, Palestine and Jordan participated in the work of the Mediterranean Trails Network in Chania, including, for example, French development organizations specializing in the sustainable development of regional areas, the Jordan Trail Association, the Palestinian Heritage Trail Association, Paths of Greece, the Culture Routes Society from Turkey and the Lebanon Mountain Trail Association.

The members of the Network were given a tour of the Archaeological Museum of Chania and Ancient Aptera, walked along the Chania Trails routes in Apokoronas, and met with the representative of the Region of Crete, Dimitris Michelogiannis, the president of the Crete Mountain Guides Association, Christoforos Baladimas, and Babis Fasoulas from the Natural History Museum of Crete in the context of discussions on the inclusion of the Trails of Crete in the Mediterranean Trails Network.
