The educational action is aimed at children aged 5 to 12 years.
A three-day educational event is organized by the Heraklion Development AAE Local Authority from 21 to 23 July 2025, within the framework of the Local Program CLLD LEADER Prefecture of Heraklion and the transnational cooperation LOCAL TOUR, aiming to familiarize children with the local diet and traditional products of the Cretan land.
The educational action entitled “We Eat Locally” is aimed at children aged 5 to 12 years and will be implemented in Creative Children’s Activity Centers (KDAP) of the intervention area of the Local Program CLLD/LEADER. The program includes two-hour experiential workshops, through which children will learn about basic local products – oil, wine, olives, rusks, honey and avocado – through tasting, games, simple culinary creations and creative puzzles.
Designed with a modern pedagogical approach, the program enhances the cognitive and sensory engagement of children, offering them a fun way to learn, create and gain nutritional awareness.
The workshops are implemented under the guidance of Alexandros Papandreou, PhD candidate in Artificial Intelligence at NCSR “Demokritos” and founder of the Charisma organization, with international experience in innovative and differentiated education. Having designed programs for children and collaborated with organizations such as WWF Greece, he specializes in experiential nutrition education, utilizing tools such as tasting, imagination and collaborative creation.
The three-day event will conclude with a children’s cooking competition, in which children who attended the workshops will participate. The competition will be a celebration of flavors, imagination and collaboration, emphasizing the joy of creating with local products.
The program is implemented with free participation and is part of the transnational cooperation project LOCAL TOUR, co-financed by the Rural Development Program of Greece 2014–2020 (Measure 19 – LEADER / TAPToK).
