The first SETE Digital Workshop of 2025, entitled “Smart tourism: How artificial intelligence is changing the landscape”, took place on Tuesday 29 April.
The discussion was attended by more than 150 tourism professionals and was chaired by SETE’s General Manager, Maria Gatsou, who pointed out that the need for digital transformation in Greek tourism has accelerated significantly following the pandemic, as reflected in the relevant INSETE roadmap. She also emphasised the importance of maintaining a balance between the heart of Greek hospitality – its people – and technological development.
The webinar focused on two thematic sections:
Section 1: Welcome to Smart Tourism | When AI meets hospitality
During the first session, Nikos Diamantopoulos, General Manager of Marketing Greece, analysed how the use of artificial intelligence tools affects each stage of the travel funnel – from the evolution of search to the use of AI agents and smart travel assistants, right through to intelligent data analysis.

During the same session, Stefanos Karagos, Founder of XPlain, presented 5+1 use cases illustrating how Artificial Intelligence is disrupting the tourism industry — and how we can make a difference.

Section 2: AI Technologies in Practice
The second section focused on the practical applications of AI in the tourism sector, where George Spiliotopoulos, ICT Sales Manager for the Public Sector at the OTE Group, presented the mAIGreece app, a new multilingual digital assistant for travellers, which provides personalised information on attractions, beaches, cultural sites and emergency services. He explained how, thanks to geolocation and support in 31 languages, it makes every trip to Greece easier, safer and more enjoyable for all visitors.

Finally, Vasilis Polyzos, Co-Founder and Managing Director of VSCOPE, outlined ways in which generative AI can transform content creation in the tourism sector, using practical examples. He also discussed modern artificial intelligence tools that offer new possibilities for the production and adaptation of video, audio and images, paving the way for more creative and targeted applications.
