In an effort to highlight Europe’s natural and cultural treasures and to promote the sustainable development of regions, the Policy Learning Platform is organising a webinar on 10 October 2025, 10.30–12.00 (CEST) entitled Trails and Routes for Tourism Development.
The seminar focuses on how cultural and nature trails can serve as tools to promote a place’s local identity, history and heritage. At the same time, it highlights the role of trails in boosting the region’s economy by increasing visitor numbers, creating potential sources of income for local communities and fostering social cohesion, whilst providing employment and opportunities for participation.
The webinar programme includes keynote speeches, such as the one by Crina Zugrav Project Manager at the European Institute of Cultural Routes, and presentations on best practice from projects such as Bicycle Network West Flanders and Contrei Live, as part of the DEPART and CHERRY projects respectively. Speakers will discuss how these projects utilise routes and networks to promote tourism, with a focus on quality, accessibility and sustainability.
The presentations will be followed by a question-and-answer session, giving participants the opportunity to discuss the challenges and opportunities involved in implementing such initiatives.
