Diving tourism is one of the most dynamic forms of special tourism worldwide, combining recreation with exploration of the marine environment and contact with the natural and cultural heritage of each place. Crete, with its unique marine landscape and biodiversity, has significant prospects for the further development of this specific tourism product.
In this context, a survey is being implemented through questionnaires by the Heraklion Development Agency, a partner of the project “DEEP CONNECTIONS – Diving Centers in Crete and Cyprus” (MIS 6038886), which is implemented within the framework of the INTERREG VI-A Greece – Cyprus Cooperation Program 2021-2027 and is co-financed by the European Union and national funds.
The questionnaires are addressed to representatives of diving centers in Crete as well as to the general public, representatives of organizations, tourism professionals, residents and visitors to the island, recognizing that the development of a sustainable and competitive tourism product requires the participation and cooperation of all parties involved.
The survey aims to capture opinions, experiences and suggestions regarding the potential, challenges and prospects of diving tourism on the island. Participants are invited to express their perceptions on how Crete can more effectively exploit its comparative advantages and strengthen its position as an attractive destination for divers from Greece and abroad.
The research findings will constitute a valuable basis for the formulation of policy proposals, interventions and strategic actions that will contribute to the upgrading of the diving product and the strengthening of Crete’s competitiveness in the international tourism market. At the same time, they will support the formulation of a development strategy that will take into account both the needs of the local economy and the protection of the natural and marine environment.
The contribution of each participant is particularly important. Every opinion and every suggestion constitute valuable elements for the formation of a common vision that will guide the development of diving tourism in Crete in the coming years.
