The George and Aristeas Mamidakis Foundation is organizing on Saturday, June 14, 2025, the first presentation of the work “Virtuous Spiral” by Danae Stratou, winner of the G. & A. Mamidakis Foundation Art Award 2025.
Since its inception in 2019, the Art Award institution has been supporting and promoting contemporary artists by offering them the opportunity to create new works of art, which will remain on permanent display in Agios Nikolaos, Crete, will form part of the Foundation’s collection and will be part of an important cultural heritage.
Furthermore, the award aims to strengthen artistic innovation not only through the creation but also through the curation of artistic proposals and their inclusion in a contemporary art collection.
This year’s call was for large-scale, site-specific land art projects designed for permanent outdoor installation, transforming the natural environment. Projects that narrate an internal journey, acting as points of reference in their exhibition space.
The 2025 Art Award invited visual artists from around the world who are active in the following fields: land art, environmental art, ecological art, sculpture, installation, sound installation, mixed media, constructions with natural materials and projects that integrate art and nature with the aim of creating innovative experiences in the open air.
The winning proposal stood out for its innovation and creativity, as well as for the way it effectively responded to the call by incorporating the principles of the award through a proposal that reactivates the space.
