More than a third of American travellers (37%) are using, or plan to use, artificial intelligence (AI) to plan their holidays this summer, according to new data from Allianz Partners’ Global Travel Confidence Index (GTCI).
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly becoming a key travel planning tool for many travellers, who use it to find the best recommendations for destinations, restaurants and activities.
According to the latest Allianz research, artificial intelligence (AI) is also helping with travel planning, financial planning and searching for travel information.
“Bleisure” is booming in the travel industry
Thanks to advances in technology, more and more Americans are combining business travel with a few days’ leisure and embracing the digital nomad lifestyle.
According to GTCI, nearly three in ten Americans (28%) plan to work remotely for a few weeks during the year, whilst nearly a quarter (23%) said they want to work remotely for several months.
The emergence of digital visa programmes for digital nomads is one such example of how the industry is adapting to this new demand.
New generations are shaping digital expectations
Allianz’s latest study also found that more Americans want digital user experiences, particularly when it comes to buying travel insurance.
Among US travellers planning to take out travel insurance, 64% said they expect or value 24-hour access to customer support and emergency assistance via a mobile app, whilst nearly half (48%) want the ability to view and manage their insurance cover digitally.
According to Allianz’s research, a corresponding percentage of 45% are interested in submitting claims online and having any problems resolved automatically.
Younger generations show the greatest interest in digital experiences. Gen Z (29%) and Millennials (26%) are much more likely to prioritise digital user experiences from travel insurance providers than Gen X or Baby Boomers.
In fact, 35% of Gen Z travellers value self-service online portals.
“Technology is transforming the way people research, plan and manage travel. Today’s travellers expect seamless, digital experiences at every stage of their journey,” said Emily Hartman, CEO of Allianz Partners.
“From AI-powered trip planning to real-time travel assistance, the industry is evolving to meet these expectations, and travel insurance is no exception. Travellers increasingly want cover that is accessible, personalised and available to them,” added Ms Hartman.
