The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum, as a cultural institution in the hinterland of Crete and a producer of large-scale events, returns this summer with a series of events entitled “Summer 2025 in Myrtia”. All events will take place at the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum in Myrtia with the co-organization of the Region of Crete, the support of the Municipality of Archanes-Asterousia and the Cultural Association of Myrtia. Specifically:
- July 20, 9:00 p.m. “Letters to Eleni”: A poetic conversation of Kazantzakis speech with music. A special artistic event where the correspondence of Nikos Kazantzakis with his wife Eleni is transformed into a live narrative and musical experience. Their letters, full of tenderness, reflection and spiritual alertness, “conversate” on stage with musical works that will be performed by the internationally renowned pianist Alexia Mouza. The direction is signed by Nikolis Avramakis, who will read the letters together with Niki Stavrou –donor of the precious archive and intellectual beneficiary of the author’s work.
- July 31, 9:00 PM. “Echoes of the Invisible”: The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum and the Labyrinth Music Workshop join forces for the first time, in a special concert with Ross Daly and a multitude of great musicians. Ross Daly, with his music that touches the boundaries of the visible and the invisible, spiritually meets Nikos Kazantzakis. At the same time, the Museum’s mobile exhibition entitled “Nikos Kazantzakis: the life and the work” will be hosted as part of the Labyrinth Music Festival in Houdetsi.
- August 27, 20:30. “Kazantzakis’ Crete in 7+1 stations“: A multidimensional cultural journey in the footsteps of the author in Crete. Families from Myrtia, Myrtians of the diaspora and artists from the wider region join forces to reconstruct, through the conversation of the arts, the path of Nikos Kazantzakis in Crete – in the place that gave birth to him, shaped him and inspired him.
- September 13, 20:30. “Mitropoulos, Kazantzakis, Theodorakis. The meeting of three greats”: The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum highlights the deep, essential relationship between three leading figures of Greek spirit and music, through a unique concert. In the first part of the evening, works by the iconic conductor and composer Dimitris Mitropoulos will be performed by: Tasos Apostolou, baritone of the National Opera, Katerina Hatzinikolaou, outstanding violinist of the Athens State Orchestra, and the internationally acclaimed pianist Apostolos Palios. In the second part, operatic works by Mikis Theodorakis will be performed by the great performer Elli Paspala, accompanied on the piano by the internationally recognized conductor Miltos Logiadis.
