The Region of Crete, in collaboration with the University of Crete, is implementing the project “Regional Mechanism for Assessing the Needs of the Labour Market in the Region of Crete“, with the aim of analysing the current state and development of the labour market in Crete, identifying the market’s weaknesses and shortcomings, and formulating proposals and measures, particularly in the area of training.
The Regional Mechanism of the Region of Crete is an innovative research project and the first regional labour market mechanism in Greece. The Scientific Director of the project is Professor Michael Taroudakis of the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at the University of Crete.
As part of the Project, a Survey of Critical Sector Businesses will be carried out. For this reason, the The Region of Crete invites Cretan businesses which are profitable and develop MAIN activity in the following sectors:
- Manufacturing, with a focus on the food, beverage and product manufacturing sector
- Construction
- Trade
- Tourism, Accommodation and Catering

The widespread participation of Cretan businesses are a decisive factor in the successful completion of the research and the realistic portrayal of the labour market in Crete, as it is It is crucial to ensure broad and representative participation from all sectors, all sizes of organisation and all municipalities in Crete.
The businesses that will ultimately be selected on the basis of specific geographical and economic criteria, in accordance with the sample specifications, will receive direct information from the Market and Entrepreneurship Research Unit of the University of Crete to complete an online questionnaire on an annual basis for the years 2025, 2026 and 2027, concerning the demographics of the businesses, their financial characteristics and activities, the composition of their workforce, their requirements in terms of professions and skills, and their views on the economy, the labour market and their future prospects.
The information collected through the questionnaires is STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL and the data will be presented only in aggregate form and not at company level. It should be noted that there are no direct benefits for the participating companies. Their participation will help to accurately reflect the current situation and trends in the economy and the labour market in Crete.
