Hiking Routes “Asterousia Trails” in the Municipality of Gortyna: Information Event on “The Environment of the Asterousia Mountains” in Stavies

The Municipality of Gortyna is organising an information session on the topic “The Environment of the Asterousia Mountains,” as part of the creation of the “Asterousia Trails” network of hiking routes.

The project involves the creation and promotion of a network of 11 hiking routes in the Asterousia Mountains, including signage and mapping initiatives, as well as promotional and informational activities for residents and visitors, with the ultimate aim of protecting nature, strengthening nature-based tourism, and supporting the sustainable development of the area.

The event will take place in the hall of the Cultural Association in Stavies, on Friday, 15 May 2026, at 19:00, with the aim of informing the local community and organisations in the Asterousia region.

  • “The Cultural Heritage of the Asterousia Mountains,” Kalliopi Galanaki, PhD, archaeologist – Honorary Head of the Department of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities and Museums at the Heraklion Ephorate of Antiquities
