The Earth Festival opens its doors on Wednesday, 2 July, in the courtyard of the 1st Experimental High School of Chania (Municipal Market Square) at 6.00 pm, and the events will run until Sunday 6 July.
With the slogan “Chania – a place to visit, a way of life”, the Earth Festival brings together local authorities, institutions, organisations, businesses, producers and cultural groups to celebrate an experiential exploration of Chania.
The Festival is held under the auspices of the Region of Crete and is the result of cooperation between the Region of Crete, the Region of Chania, all the municipalities in the Region of Chania and the Chania Chamber of Commerce.
Visitors will have the opportunity to discover the natural and economic wealth of Chania, the initiatives of local authorities, foundations and organisations, as well as the products of businesses in Crete, particularly those in Chania.
At the same time, visitors and participants will discover the added value hidden in the stories and culture of the products of the Cretan countryside; they will experience the craftsmanship that serves as a unique and timeless “key” for visitors to discover some of the most authentic experiences the region has to offer, and they will take part in experiential workshops and presentations organised by local councils, businesses and organisations. For the first time this year, they will engage with our rich intangible cultural heritage through activities designed specifically for this purpose.
A rich programme of traditional cuisine will be added to the list of events, featuring dishes such as antikristo and traditional noodles, which are the hallmarks of gastronomic critical nutrition. The initiative forms part of the “Crete European Region of Gastronomy 2026” project.
Activities and programmes aimed at fostering creativity and education amongst children, with a focus on nutrition and environmental issues, will also be carried out in a specially designed space.
Finally, a packed cultural programme featuring music and dance groups will offer entertainment and fun for both local and international visitors to the Festival. Join Zoidakis, Kontaros, Malaxianakis and Vamvakas, alongside Evangelia and the band CYCLE!
On Sunday 6 July, the EARTH FESTIVAL is celebrating Nautical Week!
The Organising Committee invites all residents of Chania to experience the Earth Festival, and encourages tourism businesses to help foreign visitors get to know Chania, its products and its people in a focused way through the Festival.
