Dutch: This is the best Greek island for outdoor activities

Karpathos was voted for by Dutch tourists

A list of the five best Greek islands for outdoor activities in 2025 was published by the popular Dutch travel website Griekenland.net, which specialises exclusively in promoting holidays in Greece https://griekenland.net/nieuws/toerisme/griekse-eilanden-voor-outdooractiviteiten-sportieve-vakanties-weg-van-de-massa/

The list was compiled following research and on-site visits to Greek islands by the website’s editors. As stated at the beginning of the article, “the Greek islands are ideal for “active” travel experiences and are perfect for hiking, windsurfing, diving, cycling and climbing. From one end of Greece to the other, five island destinations stand out for nature lovers, with Karpathos being everyone’s favourite.”.

According to Griekenland.net, “many beaches in the south of Karpathos offer ideal conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing by international standards. The north side stands out for its unique hiking trails, whilst the sense of adventure on the second-largest island of the Dodecanese is offered in “abundance” through climbing, cycling, scuba diving and shipwrecks. It is worth noting that the island is a paradise on earth for every type of traveller from May to October, and even in July and August, as its geography means it is never overcrowded.”

The list on the Dutch website is rounded off by Ikaria, Kythnos, Thassos, Kalymnos and Lefkada. ““Karpathos is a vast ”canvas“ onto which every traveller can add their own ”touches” to create their own unique blend for the ideal holiday, combining relaxation, local cuisine, fun outdoor activities, visits to historical monuments and tours of the villages,” said Tasos Milios, Deputy Mayor for Tourism of the Municipality of Karpathos.

It should be noted that the distinction regarding Karpathos and Greece arose in the context of the municipality’s informal contacts.
