*By Kostas Chalkiadakis

A special electronic platform was put into operation for the temporary accommodation of those affected by the major fire that broke out on July 29 in the Municipality of Agios Vasilios, Rethymno.

As announced by the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, the platform operates in support of the services of the Region of Crete and the municipalities, with the aim of immediately finding safe temporary housing for residents and visitors who are moving away from the affected areas.

The platform was created by the Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels, allowing the immediate recording and distribution of available tourist accommodations, in order to cover the hospitality needs arising from the development of the fire.

At the same time, the Ministry of Tourism is fully prepared to manage the impacts on tourism, with the Secretary General of Tourism Policy and Development, Vasia Koutsoukou, located at the Operations Center of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, where she is monitoring developments and coordinating actions concerning visitors.
