



The Pan-Cretan Gastronomic Gift Competition 2026, which was held in the context of the important distinction for the Region of Crete, as the European Region of Gastronomy 2026, was successfully completed. The competition highlighted the rich gastronomic identity of the island, showcasing the quality, authenticity and innovation of local products.
The aim of the event, implemented by the Region of Crete, was to select products that will worthily represent Crete in the international competition World Food Gift Challenge 2026, which will be held on May 19, 2026 in Heraklion.
The participation was particularly dynamic, as creators and producers from all over the island responded to the open call, confirming the creativity and dynamics of the local production ecosystem.
The products that were distinguished
Category 1: Gastronomic Nutritional Gift
- 1st Prize: ZIRO SITIA – Early Harvest Extra Virgin Olive Oil – ZIRO SITIA O.E.
- 2nd Prize: “Tastes of Crete” – Handmade Gastronomic Gift Basket – Cooperative “Apo Koinou” (Cooperative Community of Self-Sufficiency)
Category 2: Gastronomic Handicraft Gift
- 1st Prize: Set of table napkins with handmade brass metal rings, inspired by the olive tree – Irini Vasilaki.
- 2nd Prize: Hand-painted ceramic tableware – Dimitrios Lymberidis.
The distinguished products are typical examples of the connection between tradition and modern creation, highlighting Cretan gastronomy as a strong pillar of culture and development.
