The Pan-Cretan Gastronomic Gift Competition 2026, which took place in the context of the significant recognition accorded to the Region of Crete, as the European Region of Gastronomy 2026, was successfully completed. The competition highlighted the island’s rich gastronomic identity, showcasing the quality, authenticity and innovation of local products.
The aim of the event, organised by the Region of Crete, was to select products that would represent Crete well in the international competition World Food Gift Challenge 2026, which will take place on 19 May 2026 in Heraklion.
Participation was particularly lively, as creators and producers from all over the island responded to the open call, confirming the creativity and dynamism of the local production ecosystem.
The products that were recognised
Category 1: Gastronomic and Nutritional Gift
- 1st Prize: ZIRO SITIA – Early Harvest Extra Virgin Olive Oil – ZIRO SITIA General Partnership.
- 2nd Prize: “Tastes of Crete” – Handmade Gastronomic Gift Basket – “Apo Koinou” Cooperative” (Cooperative Community for Self-Sufficiency)
Category 2: Gastronomic Handicraft Gift
- 1st Prize: A set of table napkins with handmade brass rings, inspired by the olive tree – Irini Vasilaki.
- 2nd Prize: Hand-painted ceramic tableware – Dimitrios Lymberidis.
These distinguished products are prime examples of the link between tradition and modern creativity, highlighting Cretan gastronomy as a cornerstone of culture and development.
