Kastoria is preparing to host, from October 10 to 12, 2025, the 8th Panhellenic Trails Meeting, an event dedicated to hiking tourism, nature, and cultural heritage.
The event continues the institution that began in 2017 in Vytina and has since been hosted in Andros, Metsovo, Xanthi, Kaisariani, Pelion, and Chania. Its aim is to highlight trails as a tool for sustainable development, tourism promotion, and social cohesion.
The Panhellenic Trails Meetings constitute a forum for dialogue, exchange, and the implementation of best practices for the promotion of hiking tourism as a form of slow tourism activity, as well as the formulation of national strategies that will ensure the sustainability of the Greek trail network and the activities they host, along with the communities that support them.
Stakeholders and individuals, as well as civil society actors engaged in hiking whether in usage, management, maintenance, promotion, or protection of hiking networks will participate in an effort to showcase the great wealth of Greece through the trails that traverse it, connecting its natural, monumental, architectural, and intangible heritage with the living productive activity of its inhabitants.
The event, with the participation of numerous institutions, universities, and volunteers, will combine scientific dialogue, nature-related activities, and cultural events. Specifically, the three-day program will include a series of presentations and discussions that expand the ongoing dialogue, accompanied by an activity program (hikes, guided tours and boat rides, photography exhibitions, and music), open to participants, giving them the opportunity to discover Kastoria, its trails, its culture, and its people.
This year in Kastoria, the 8th Panhellenic Trails Meeting is co-organized by the Regional Unit of Kastoria, the Municipality of Kastoria, the University of Western Macedonia (Kastoria branch with the Laboratory of Social and Humanistic Studies), and the Social Cooperative Enterprise “The Aenaon – neverest”. With the motto “for us and our children”, it invites everyone to celebrate nature, culture, and solidarity.
